Digital Switchover |

Digital switchover - what is it?
The digital TV switchover is the process of turning off the UK's analogue TV signal and replacing it with a digital signal.
Why is the digital switchover happening?
The digital TV switchover is driven by Government policy. Therefore it IS NOT OPTIONAL. There is a timetable laid out for the roll out of digital TV throughout the country, and you need to be aware of this timescale so you be prepared for when Digital TV becomes compulsory in your area.
The Digital Switchover means that almost everyone will be able to receive digital TV through an aerial (Freeview).
Digital TV tends to utilize less broadcasting space. This means that after the digital switchover switchover, there should be more room for new services such as wireless broadband, local TV and High Definition Television (HDTV), and the newest innovation, 3D TV.
To retain your TV service, you will be required to convert your TVs to digital before your area's switchover date.
Are there any Benefits of switching to digital
Digital TV offers viewers fresh ways to enjoy your TV service:
A larger choice of TV channels
Newer features, advanced functionality, such as on-screen listings, interactive TV, audio descriptions and subtitles for those with visual or audio impairments.
Additional optional channels / services including premium TV channels (e.g Sports, Movies, Pay per View) internet broadband and telephony.
The Digital Switchover Timetable
2009 for viewers served by ITV West country, ITV Wales and ITV Granada
2010 for viewers served by ITV West and STV (both Central & North Scotland)
2011 for viewers served by ITV Central, ITV Yorkshire and ITV Anglia
2012 for viewers served by ITV Meridian (including Oxford transmitter), ITV London, ITV Tyne Tees and UTV (Northern Ireland)
those living in the Channel Islands will be switched in early 2013
